They Knew Me When is the memoir of Sholom Roy Lavin, born in 1945 in Springfield, Mass. S.R. Lavin has been widely published in the U.S. as well as internationally. His earlier works include Let Myself Shine (Kulchur Press, 1979) and The Stonecutters at War with the Cliff Dwellers (Heron Press, 1971). More recent publications include Mahat: The Essence of Being and The Velvet-Lined Toilet Bowl, both from Lady June Press. Through conversation and instruction, Lavin passed his love of writing on to his friends and students. He taught creative writing and literature and served as poet-in-residence at Clark University and Northampton School for Girls. He spent his final years in South Florida and passed away in January 2019.
