Maddie Klein has been on her own far before she was legally emancipated at seventeen. Now eighteen, all Maddie cares about is keeping her head down and landing herself a scholarship that will grant her the freedom to get far away from Ridge Valley. She just has to survive the challenges of both her circumstances and the dark places of her mind long enough to make it happen.

Despite the hurdles in her path, Maddie is determined to make it work. She has no other choice. Luckily, she is an old pro at navigating the obstacles thrown in her path.
