Are you thirsty? Maybe the better question is, do you recognize your thirst? Sometimes it's experienced as loneliness, boredom, not feeling like one's life matters, an emptiness or even a desire for someone or something. Thirst even masquerades as an addiction. Often, we don't notice it, while at other times it can be felt as gnawing reality or a raging lion. Everyone, despite appearances, is deeply thirsty. For the follower of Jesus, thirst, in whatever form one experiences it, can easily be misinterpreted as a failure of faith. We can wrongly assume we have done something wrong or haven't done enough of something good and right.
In Living Thirsty, the reader is invited to understand thirst as a part of the journey of faith. Thirst permeates the biblical narrative. Part of following Jesus on the difficult and narrow road of faith requires us to embrace our thirst, recognizing for whom it is we are thirsty, and to then live thirsty as we continue to work out our faith.
