ABOUT THE BOOK After landing safely in Scarlett Bay for a colleague vacation, a twist of fate separates Sloan from her resort. Back in St. Anne's Landing, the surgeon she loves learns of her failure to check into the Las Palmeras resort and quickly charters a private jet to Scarlett Bay. EXCERPTS: 1. [Sloan] dug her nails into the earth at her sides and sifted warm sand through her fingers. "Somebody. Help me," she cried.
The world spun and cramps seized her abdomen as she raised her head. She braced her belly to ease the dry heaves, but the lack of saliva on her parched, swollen tongue made spitting anything, especially the grit coating her mouth, impossible. She needed water, but first, she had to stand and find higher ground.
