In the spring of May 19th, 1918, in Brooks County Georgia, a large group of white men lynched a 8th month pregnant Mary Turner. Simply for speaking against the lynching of her husband the day before. As they lynched her they tied her feet and proceeded to hang her upside down and then poured gasoline on her and set her a fire. Sadly, she did not die right away. As she hung there burning one of the men took a butcher knife and cut the baby from her stomach and as the crying baby fell to the ground one of the members of the mob crushed the baby's head with his foot. And if that were not enough the lynch mob fired over 100 bullets into her body. All stemming from her Husband being alleged to have killed a white farmer. This store most of all was the motivation to write this book. To not just read how a black man was killed i.e., Martin Luther King. Or killed as Emmett Till. Yes murder is murder and no murder is right or justified, but to know that you not only lynched, and burned a pregnant woman, but you cut her unborn child from her stomach and killed it the minute it hit the ground. This country and its western culture has a history of violence against people of different colors and religion. This country has a "Propensity for Violence."
