When Richard Draven's research into the healing properties of animals and the possibility of transferring them to humans, he unwittingly sets in motion a chain of events which will lead mankind to the brink of extinction. His discovery - a new species of monkey with incredible regenerative powers - leads to interest from the government who is looking for a way to enhance their military forces in their numerous conflicts around the globe.

Six years later, the research started by Draven has been put into practice. Small groups of soldiers have been modified at a genetic level by a brand new virus, one which makes them stronger, quicker, and more intelligent. Soon, disturbing reports of mass murder and unprovoked violence by the Apex teams have started to filter into homeland security.
