Borderline: The European Case

Borders within Europe are far from absolute. They have been blurring steadily ever since the Schengen agreements of 1985. Twenty-six countries with a total border diameter of 16,500 kilometres can be travelled between freely. Armed only with a GPS, local ordnance maps, and his trusty camera, photographer Valerio Vincenzo explores liminal spaces between political-cultural territories. He captures what is left over: tranquillity, beauty, calm, peace and freedom. His photos all evoke one question: What are borders really? AUTHOR: Valerio Vincenzo started this project in 2007. His dedication to it has been rewarded: he was given the Prix Luise Weiss for European journalism in 2013, and in 2016 he won the second prize of the Canon Silver Camera.
