The Battle of Daruchhian, a Saga of Valour and Sacrifice is an account of a battle which in less than twelve hours eight officers, seven Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) and one hundred and forty nine Other Ranks (ORs) were killed, wounded or missing. Those who survived came back with their heads held high not only for what their compatriots did but also for their own contributions towards achieving the objective. This battle was doomed for failure from the beginning.
The book written in three parts, is a narration of the successful raids on the enemies supply points, before the main battle. A detailed account of the main battle which was thrust on the battalion to fight, as per the orders from the Commanders who rejected the request for time to patrol the area
The narrative dwells on low morale of the battalion with the loss of compatriots and the role of the Commanding Officer (CO) to restore the confidence. Finally, the rare decision to meet with the Army Commander, against the advice of his Commanders, to restore the dignity and honour without sacrificing any values.
The Book would be of tremendous interest to not only the soldiers who face such odds, but to all interested readers for a better understanding of the life of a soldier especially on the borders.
