The Small People are the true inheritors of earth. For millions of years they have been living inside the earth, hundreds of kilometers below the surface, in circumstances where no other form of life exists. Resources are few but enough for the limited population. A scientific, technologically advanced society, citizens don’t have to worry about food, clothing, shelter, never fall sick and have developed a unique way of life to extenuate the limitations imposed by their environment, while making sure they don’t jeopardize the delicate balance that ensures their continued existence. People own no assets, have no families or relationships, and live either to serve others or to remember and be with the Life Force. They have evolved a perfectly harmonious society where everything is shared.Kanchan entered the world of the Small People by accident. They took him in and brought him up according to their ways making him one of their own until he lusted, when there was surfeit, and failed the Chiefs, resulting in his egress from Eden. His family had benefitted from his disappearance. The Small People had given them unlimited wealth for keeping him. His arrival on earth resulted in them losing the wealth. Unaware of this cause and effect, they held him responsible for the dip in their fortunes. Greed overcomes all other considerations leading to tragic consequences. iThe Small People’ is a story of many dimensions. It has adventure, novelty, human fallacy and weaknesses, forgiveness, revenge, penitence and redemption. It attempts to picture a society where there is no want, life where not much is needed to be happy, and most importantly, people who find a purpose in living for others. The story compares such a world with one that is driven by personal gratification, the driving force of human beings on earth. Tragedy is the vehicle that carries this comparison, concluding in a sharp and hurtling climax.
