Novellen um Claudia besteht aus einem Zyklus von sieben Novellen, die sich um die Verlobung und Ehe von Claudia und Walter ranken. Die Episoden werden jeweils aus unterschiedlicher Perspektive berichtet. Insbesondere die erste Episode Das Postpaket besitzt einen ausgepragten Novellencharakter. Dennoch nahern sich die Novellen in ihrer Gesamtheit den Kapiteln eines fortlaufenden Seelen-Romans an, der die Entwicklung der Beziehung der beiden Protagonisten verfolgt. Daher wurde Novellen um Claudia schon bald nach Erscheinen als Roman klassifiziert.
