Salamis and the Salaminioi: The History of an Unofficial Athenian Demos

Salamis and the Salaminioi for the first time provides a thorough investigation of the people of the island of Salamis and their status in the Classical period. The first part of the work surveys the sixth-century history of the island, and challenges the communis opinio that Salamis was a klerouchy. Part II considers the setting and organization of the Classical community on the island - here called an unofficial demos. Part III investigates the demos during the tumultuous third century.
