Nicolas Vatin is the author of a major work on the history of the Ottoman Empire, especially during the 15th and 16th centuries. Following his nomination to the Academie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres, thirty-four of his friends and colleagues from nine different countries wished to pay tribute to him. Their contributions, written in French and English (and one in German), are edited by Elisabetta Borromeo, Frederic Hitzel, and Benjamin Lellouch.
