The Future Is Unwritten: Nuevo Leon

A panoply of contemporary photographs exploring the social complexities and contradictions of 21st-century living in the Mexican region of Nuevo Leon

This volume features approximately 320 images focusing on diverse aspects of Monterrey, Mexico-an influential border city known as a major industrial and business hub-as well as other municipalities in the northeastern state of Nuevo Leon. The publication presents photographic work by Aristeo Jimenez, Yvonne Venegas, Oswaldo Ruiz, Alejandro Cartagena, the Estetica Unisex collective (Lorena Estrada and Futuro Moncada), Loreto Villarreal, Stefan Ruiz, Ruth Rodriguez, Salome Fuentes, Sofia Ayarzagoitia and Juan Rodrigo Llaguno. These artists explore themes such as urban growth, labor culture and the everyday lives of various social groups. Most of the artists are originally from Nuevo Leon or have addressed issues in their careers that concern the region, but these issues are not exclusive to a single geographic point; rather, they are conditions shared with localities across Latin America.
