Self is the conception that should be unique in any individual to live a meaningful and complete life which makes him to prove his real attitude and his mutual relationship with the world. Living a life of being a socially acceptable and recognized personality of some use to others serves the purpose even in this materialistic life. It is obvious that there are human values and morals which form the basis for mankind as a whole in the past, present and even in the future. Hence the importance ofSelf is explained in this book based on the theory of Self Psychology proposed by Heinz Kohut in 1960s. The theory is applied on the two sets of comparative analysis of the select novels of Arun Joshi and Kiran Desai.
