Environmental pollution is one of the major problems faced by the world community, especially in the cities of the developing countries which have experienced unbridled growth of population, urbanisation and industrialisation. The concept of sustainable development is inextricably linked with environment protection. It is a strategy for improving the quality of human life while living within the carrying capacity of supporting ecosystem. Sustainable development entails commitment, protection and preservation of environment. Protection of the environment has to be a central part of any sustainable inclusive growth strategy.
