The book focuses on the problems of the new image of science, which is forming in connection with the processes of globalisation and informatisation of society and culture, with the emergence of concepts of post-industrial, information, knowledge and technogenic societies. Science and scientific rationality are not only undergoing radical changes, but are also producing a new post-classical methodology and new means of analysing and evaluating the results of scientific research. The specifics of technoscience, the risks of the latest megatechnologies and strategies for their social control, national science in a global network society and 'information poverty' are considered. The tools for studying science, shifts in the organisation of science, and the evaluation of scientists' contributions are analysed. Issues of dialogue between the scientific community and the authorities, the public, and business, the prerequisites for the formation of modern science and technology policy, and the effectiveness of the cognitive apparatus of the sociology of science are discussed. The promising prospects of the knowledge society are correlated with the real problems of science and education and the transformation of the idea of the university. Particular attention is paid to the state of science in countries with transitional economies (Ukraine, Russia).
