The study evaluated the behavior of plasma levels of IGF-1, glucose and insulin in the pre- and post-operative period of 45 patients undergoing Fobi-Capella surgery divided into 4 groups: Non-obese, Pre-operative, Post-operative 45 days and Post-operative 1 year. It was observed that mean weight and BMI decreased significantly after one year of surgery. IGF-1 levels were lower in obese patients when compared to eutrophic patients; after 45 days of surgery there was an additional drop of 30.1% and; patients one year post-surgery had a mean similar to non-obese patients (251.50 +/- 98.72ng/mL and 329.09 +/- 89.83ng/mL). The IGF-1 score followed the trends observed previously. Post-operative glycemic values at 45 days (86.18 +/- 8.53mg/dL) and 1 year (82.50 +/- 9.19mg/dL) were lower than pre-operatively (94.54 +/- 23.70mg/dL) and the 1-year and non-obese groups were similar. The mean insulin levels in patients 45 days (9.26 +/- 4.86uU/mL) and one year (6.71 +/- 4.41uU/mL) post-operatively were lower than those found pre-operatively (62.56 +/- 47.53uU/mL) and similar to those in the non-obese group. HOMA-IR decreased in the post-operative groups compared to the pre-operative group.
