This work studies the clothing industries established in Teresina, specifically those with industrial laundries, in order to analyze whether they internalize environmental protection measures in the production process, particularly environmental management systems and cleaner production. To this end, the process of industrialization in the world, Brazil, Piaui and Teresina and its environmental consequences are explained; the environmental policies implemented by industries in the clothing sector are described; and the economic, social and environmental advantages and disadvantages of using production processes committed to environmental prudence are debated. In order to achieve the objective, it was necessary to carry out a bibliographical and statistical survey and field research through the application of questionnaires and interviews with eight clothing manufacturers of small, medium and large sizes, according to the classification of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), in order to identify whether these business organizations were carrying out or intended to adopt environmental protection procedures in their production processes.
