As part of its general policies, the Poitou-Charentes Regional Council has set up a whole range of training schemes to support young people, jobseekers and people recognized as disabled workers. Work-study apprenticeships are considered to be one of the Region's main priorities in the field of training. According to the latest census, the apprenticeship penetration rate in mainland France was 6.8%. Nine regions are below this threshold, while thirteen are above it. Among the latter, where apprenticeship is most firmly rooted in training practices, Poitou-Charentes comes second, with a rate of 8.6%".
