The family business is a type of enterprise that is notoriously present and of undeniable importance at the base of the economic structure in most countries, and this is no different in Brazil. The management of this business model is particularly complex, due to the close ties between the family and the management of the business. Family businesses often lack professionalism in their management and have a conservative organisational culture, which makes it difficult to improve their administrative models in terms of competitiveness and the very continuity of the company. The general aim of this study was to investigate and verify the existence of a culture of innovation in the management of family businesses in the Rio do Sinos Valley, in order to make the business more competitive and contribute to its continuity.
