The Environmental Technician Project: between the profession of the future and the social vision had the objectives of identifying and studying the competences of the Environmental Technician. recovering the trajectories of environmental concerns and of the environmental professional and the Environmental Technician Course at Etec Conego Jose Bento; and tracing and analysing the profile of the students in the 2015 and 2016 classes. Due to the view, ingrained in the school community, that students in this area 'hug trees', this study was undertaken by means of historical and bibliographical research, which consisted of collecting and analysing data from the newspapers of the municipality of Jacarei and Etec Conego Jose Bento - spreadsheets, photographs, course plans, archived at the Etec Conego Jose Bento Memory Centre; interviews; and questionnaires administered to students from the 2015 and 2016 classes of the Environment Technical Course and the Integrated High School Technical Course - Etim Meio Ambiente. Analysis of the results indicated that the prejudiced perception of the school community is due, among other reasons, to a lack of knowledge about the course and its training.
