The petroleum industry is subject to compliance with government regulations requiring the production and use of more environmentally friendly fuels with lower sulfur content. Likewise, the sulfur level in fuels such as gasoline and diesel must be reduced to 0.01 ppm. For this reason, the development of catalysts with high activity and selectivity for the hydrodesulfurization process (HDS) is one of the most pressing problems facing the petroleum industry. The objective of this research was oriented to the development of mesoporous solids catalysts such as MCM-48 with incorporation of MoS2 and NiMoSx generated in situ, by two synthesis routes: Decomposition of molybdenum hexacarbonyl plus sulfur during impregnation and incipient impregnation with ammonium heptamolybdate with or without Ni plus H2/H2S. The behavior and catalytic performance of these solids in the dehydrodesulfurization reaction of dibenzothiophene was also evaluated.
