In the present work the focus has been to design retractable foldable stairs where the locking is done based on design dimensional differences as well as electromagnetic locking. The designed foldable stairs can be considered as a subsystem of telescopic seating system. The implementation of electromagnetic locking certainly improves the locking intensity over conventional locking mechanism. The design has supports which accommodate the other supports of just the previous step in such a manner that when folded then occupy the least space. In terms of locking the power calculations are performed keeping the dimensions in the consideration. Based on the design, the 3D Printing model is printed as a representation of the design and practical implication. Such works can be used at multiple daily life scenarios such as in case of emergency and also for the concept of convertible spaces where large gatherings happen. The foldable stairs also find application in space of transportation where elderly and disabled people along with pregnant women find challenges during climbing into the public transport. This problem can also be solved to a good extent using the foldable stairs.
