This book summarizes the research carried out in the Brazilian legal system into elements that could form the basis of a new legal framework for animals. It was based on the observation that at various historical moments human beings have had their fundamental rights violated and that vulnerable groups have had special constitutional protection. With vulnerability as an important bioethical reference point, we are invited to reflect on whether it is possible to give animals similar protection, allowing for further expansion of the concept of Animal Rights.
