Two experiments were conducted in the Swine Sector of the Department of Animal Science at UFLA to verify the effects of different levels of metabolizable energy (ME) and crude protein (CP) in rations formulated according to the ideal protein concept and phytase for piglets from 15 to 35 kg. Experiment I was a metabolism trial to assess total nutrient digestibility and mineral excretion in the faeces, and Experiment II was to assess performance, blood parameters, body composition, organ weights and bone mineralization. The results show that by manipulating the rations it is possible to reduce the nitrogen excreted in the feces by 36%, the nitrogen excreted in the urine by 44% and the phosphorus in the feces by 31%, thus helping to reduce the environmental impact caused by pig waste.
