En 2024 Mexico cumple 200 anos de haber adoptado la republica como forma de gobierno. Y a pesar de intentar resolver -durante dos siglos- la sucesion presidencial a traves del voto libre, la democracia ha resultado un galimatias que por momentos parece negada para los mexicanos.

A gritos y sombrerazos (en el mejor de los casos) o a balazos y traiciones (en el peor) los avances en la democracia mexicana nos han costado sangre, sudor y lagrimas.

La silla embrujada es un recorrido minucioso a traves de cada una de las sucesiones presidenciales durante el siglo XX y las que llevamos en el XXI.

Embrujada o no, la silla presidencial siempre ha sido la manzana de la discordia. Y tras cada sucesion surgen los cuestionamientos infaltables: ?pudimos haberlo hecho diferente? ?Acudir a las urnas si marca una diferencia? ?Esta vez no habra fraude?

In 2024, Mexico marks 200 years of embracing a republican way of governance. And in spite of having spent two centuries trying to resolve presidential elections through free vote, democracy has turned out to be mere mumbo jumbo, at times denied to all Mexicans.

Screaming and kicking (at best) or shooting and backstabbing (if worse,) advancing Mexican democracy has taken us blood, sweat, and tears.

The Cursed Chair is an in-depth tour through each presidential succession of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.

Cursed or not, the presidential seat has always been the bone of contention. And after each succession, the same inevitable questions arise: Could we have done it differently? Does going to the polls actually make a difference? There won't be fraud this time around?
