Le narrateur part donc pour Munich, ou il peut identifier Forestier avec l'aide du baron Zelten. Toutefois, ce voyage le replonge dans ses souvenirs d'etudiant, et plusieurs autres aventures arrivent. Le narrateur traverse l'Allemagne revancharde d'apres la Premiere guerre mondiale. Finalement, le narrateur rentre dans le Limousin, sa region natale, en compagnie de Forestier, ou ils comptent vivre une vie paisible.
