Die literarischen Ursprunge der Lohengrinsage liegen im Franzoesischen. In der deutschen Sprache taucht die Figur des Ritters Lohengrin zum ersten mal im mittelalterlichen Epos Parzival von Wolfram von Eschenbach, auf. Im 19. Jahrhundert komponierte Richard Wagner die romantische Oper Lohengrin, auf ebendiesen mittelalterlichen Stoff. Der oesterreichische Psychoanalytiker Otto Rank (1884-1939) diskutiert, in dem hier vorliegenden Werk, die Motivgestaltung und Deutung der Sage und die dichterische Gestaltung des Stoffes durch Wagner. Vorliegendes Buch ist ein qualitativ hochwertiger Nachdruck der langst vergriffenen Originalausgabe von 1911.
