Nach seinem bestandenen Examen ging er fur funf Jahre nach Brasilien, wo er eine deutsche Schule leitete. Diese Zeit pragte ihn sehr und nahm in mehreren Werken von ihm Einfluss. \ Der Lasso\ ist ein fast vergessener Roman Funkes.
