The Great Graphic Boom: Amerikanische Kunst 1960-1990

During the 1950s and 60s, the American art scene flourished with a vitality and originality that had significance far beyond the borders of the United States. The American breakthrough started with the so-called Abstract Expressionist movement of the New York School, which was succeeded by new generations of artists and new movements such as Neo-Dada, Hard Edge, Pop Art and Minimalism. This catalogue considers a marginalized and overlooked aspect of American art during these important decades: the strong interest in printmaking that emerged among many artists in the years from around 1960 onwards.
