FrC 16.2 Aristophon - Dromon

The volume contains the comedy poets from Aristophon to Dromon, who were active in the 4th century BC. The three best-witnessed poets Aristophon, Axionikos and Dionysios offer interesting insights into the development of the genre in the later phase of Middle Comedy . In the fragments of the Aristophone there are some of the most apt examples of the poets’ engagement with contemporary philosophy (Pythagoras and Plato). Dionysius is closest to the New Comedy . Some of his fragments show the development of the comedy characters who regularly appear in connection with festivals and guest-monists.
