English summary: In 1949 during his exile in Britain, Felix Jacoby composed his introductory study on the life and work of the Atthidographers (Atthis. The Local Chronicles of Ancient Athens, Oxford). A year later, he published two follow-up volumes containing testimonies and fragments by the very same authors of the history of Athens (and other local histories) as part of his collection of fragments of Greek historians. Soon afterwards (from 1953-54), he continued his work with two volumes of commentary on those historians. In this brief study, P.J. Rhodes not only succeeds in making known Jacoby’s contribution to the research of the Atthidographers while contextualizing it within the evolution of research history, but he also succeeds in describing the development of the genre on the basis of the latest research, including his own, and by highlighting its significance for the reconstruction of Athenian history in both the Archaic and the Classical periods.
