Gotthold Ephraim Lessing has held an honored place in cultural memory since the beginning of the 19th century. This was made possible through the presence of persons who conserved and fostered his works. In Lessing’s case, the school system in particular has played a major role in crowning him by including his works in their canon and implanting him in cultural memory. This volume gives insights into how Lessing came to be taught in the Humanistic Gymnasiums of Germany between 1830 and 1914. The focus lies on the School Program, a publication type previously not well studied as a literary form. Contributions to Nathan the Wiseman have been edited. This text is in German.
