Anthropologie und Naturrecht bei Johann Georg Hamann

Hamann’s anthropological thinking tries to do justice to the tension between freedom and dependency by emphasizing the self-determination ability of man in all life-style characteristics. The question of the nature of man is also answered normatively by Hamann, namely through a specifically natural law approach: According to Hamann, people do not need any higher authority because of their natural love for themselves and others in order to live in society. Duties are conveyed to man through nature, as creation and as a normative authority. Hamann adheres to the idea of revelation - through nature and writing - because he is skeptical about a purely intellectual recognition of values.
