English summary: Chariton’s Callirhoe is the earliest complete Greek historical novel, composed sometime between 50 BCE and 50 CE, whose chief importance is in how it provides insights into the literary history and prose fiction of the late classical world of Rome. This commentary on Chariton’s novel aims to present information relevant to both a philological discussion about text-critical problems and linguistic-stylistic peculiarities in order to analyze the novel according to its narratological perspective and to review its literary and historical contexts. To help accomplish such goals related to both the style and structure of the novel, this commentary offers cross-references for motifs and structural and linguistic parallels to later Greek novels, which help to show the importance that Callirhoe had for the development of the genre. The commentary begins with a short introduction to the daring authorship, language and style as well as the reception and transmission of the novel and finishes with a morphological commentary on books I-IV. German description: Chariton’s ‘Kallirhoe’ ist der fruheste vollstandig uberlieferte griechische Liebesroman (ca. 50 v. Chr.-50 n.
