Das Hauptziel der Optimal Matching Analyse besteht darin, in komplexen zeitbezogenen Datensatzen typische Verlaufsmuster zu erkennen. Diese Technik wurde bislang zur Beschreibung von DNA-Sequenzen und Borsenkursen eingesetzt, besitzt aber auch ein vielversprechendes Analysepotential in den Sozialwissenschaften. Anhand eines Datensatzes mit Lebenslaufsinformationen werden alle Auswertungsschritte einer Optimal Matching Analyse dargestellt, besprochen und mit Programmbeispielen illustriert.
