The study interprets the deboral song as a song of praise for the saving God. The song does not want to be understood as a neutral factual account of the clash between Israelite tribes and Canaan. The song is shaped by the knowledge of the omnipotence of God and his partisanship for his people. God’s righteous deeds apply to his people in the present and future. In this respect, Jdc 5 is not about the relationship between history and fiction, but about the relationship between history and confession.
