Until recently research into the culture of the island of Crete has exhibited a marked focus on the Bronze Age phases of its development. Only gradually has the cultural-historical importance of the other eras, too, emerged. The present volume features not only the results of excavations but also contributions that reflect on the Minoic heritage, relationships with the Orient, the creation of the polis, the use of writing, religion, myths, and art production.
