A decade of bold artistic evolution
This volume, fourth in a planned series of six, presents Sean Scully's paintings in the first decade of the twenty- first century. Working in studios in New York, Barcelona and Bavaria, he produced over 400 paintings in this period, continuing his major series of Wall of Light paintings, begun in 1997, and adding new, acclaimed series such as Cut Grounds and Robes. Major touring exhibitions of his work were presented by the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, Dusseldorf, in 2001 and the Miro Foundation, Barcelona, in 2007. Early in the decade, Scully was made an Honorary Fellow of the London Institute of Arts and Letters, and a member of Aosdana in Ireland. In 2003, he received honorary doctorates of fine art from the Massachusetts College of Art, Boston, and the National University of Ireland, Dublin.
