Irma Boom leads an adventurous journey through the design archives of leading shoe brand Camper, known for its playful and bold footwear
Spanish footwear company Camper, founded by Lorenzo Fluxa in 1975, celebrates its 50th anniversary with an irreverent exploration of the art of walking. The Camper brand is marketed globally and is present in 40 countries, with more than 400 stores and sales of around 4 million pairs of shoes annually. The book is designed by the legendary Dutch bookmaker and graphic designer Irma Boom (born 1960), who has been described as the "Queen of Books," having created over 300 of them. Her bold experimental approach to her projects often challenges the convention of traditional books in both physical design and printed content. Told through the shoes from its archive, this visual history of the Mallorca-based footwear brand walks through its earliest to most recent designs, juxtaposed against strikingly similar and dissimilar images. This visually compelling book is a nonlinear journey through the evolution of Camper footwear, with each design a vehicle for innovative and purposeful movement, honoring the brand philosophy, "Walk, Don't Run." Looking back and walking forward, this publication honors the imagination, diversity and eclecticism of Camper so far.
