Die Verwandlung ist eine im Jahr 1912 entstandene Erzahlung von Franz Kafka. Die Geschichte handelt von Gregor Samsa, dessen ploetzliche Verwandlung in ein Ungeziefer die Kommunikation seines sozialen Umfelds mit ihm immer mehr hemmt, bis er von seiner Familie fur untragbar gehalten wird und schliesslich zugrunde geht. Kafka gelang es in der Nacht vom 22. zum 23. September 1912, die Erzahlung in nur acht Stunden in einem Zuge zu Papier zu bringen. Im spateren Urteil der Literaturwissenschaft hat Kafka hier mit einem Schlag thematisch und stilistisch zu sich selbst gefunden.
