Two artists, two techniques - a highly unusual collaborative project. Unleashed brings together two very different artists: the photographer Roger Ballen (*1950), who lives in South Africa, and the Dutch draughtsman Hans Lemmen (*1959). Both share an interest in the conditio humana and in archetypal images that describe a world beyond our familiar civilisation. Unleashed shows a universe of enigmatic dreams and surreal truths, a world apparently out of time, populated by people and animals subject to forces let loose. Over a period of several months they exchanged images and turned each other’s respective medium into their own material. With camera, scissors, and drawing tools - separated by time and space - they carried on an intensive and challenging dialogue. Text in English and French. 81 colour, 26 b/w images
