Der Autor lebte uber acht Jahre in Irland. Davon ein Jahr auf einer kleinen Insel mit nur einem Haus drauf. Trotzdem nahm er mit vielen Pubbesuchen und als Spieler im lokalen Fussballverein am sozialen Leben teil. Die Nachbarinsel gehoerte einst John Lennon und war in den 1970er Jahren fur einige Zeit von Hippies bewohnt. Spater auf dem Festland nahm J. Fischer Jobs als Koch und Spuler, Getrankefahrer und in einer Schreinerei an. Auch verkaufte er selbstgemachte deutsche Bratwurste im eigenen Imbiss. Da man in Irland immer genug Zeit hat, konnte er zusatzlich an Skulpturen aus Mooreiche arbeiten.
