This Special Issue invites contributions that explore the convergence of IoT communication technologies and their role in shaping a more connected society. The focus will be on key topics such as the integration of sensors into next-generation communication systems, emerging communication paradigms, and technologies including the Internet of Drones (IoD), the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), machine-to-machine (M2M) communications, RFID, and zero-power communications. Particular attention will be given to their applications in smart agriculture and smart cities. The goal is to tackle scientific and technological challenges related to improving data transmission, processing efficiency, and energy sustainability across diverse IoT systems. Submissions may address, among other themes, advancements in RFID for effective data collection, the use of zero-power solutions to extend IoT device lifespans, and the application of IoD and IIoT to boost system efficiency and communication performance. We welcome original research articles, comprehensive reviews, and case studies that present innovative strategies to overcome the current limitations of IoT communication technologies, with special emphasis on their practical impact in the development of smart agriculture and smart cities.
