Die Monographie leistet einen Beitrag zu einer Forschungsrichtung, die man analog zur New Imperial History als Neue Imperiale Literaturgeschichte bezeichnen koennte.
Durch die Verbannung des polnischen Dichters Adam Mickiewicz nach Russland kam es in den 1820er Jahren zu einer in ihrer Intensitat einmaligen Begegnung zwischen der polnischen und russischen Romantik. Paradigmatische Geltung haben vor allem die konfliktreichen Konstellationen zwischen Mickiewicz und Puskin. Im Kontext postkolonialer Ansatze zu Ostmitteleuropa untersucht das vorliegende Buch das intertextuelle Spannungsfeld, in dem die beiden Literaturen ihre (anti-)hegemonialen Schreibstrategien entwickelten und dabei kontroverse poetisch-politische Polen- und Russland-Figurationen entwarfen, die bis heute nachwirken.
