The authors describe methods of static and free vibration analyses of thin shell structures. The contents include: development of a thin shell theory, use of curvilinear mesh and finite differences to approximate the geometry and deformation characteristics of thin shells, development of formulae for transformation of components and equations in global and local co-ordinate systems, assessment of the accuracy of various approximations for displacement components and area integrations, computing issues of Eigen solutions and the presentation of numerical values of normalized mode shapes of example shell structures. The text is designed for both engineers and researchers who work on the static and dynamic analyses of shell structures. It assumes familiarity with tensor calculus and the finite difference method.
