What was the EKD’s attitude towards German war criminals and the trials against them abroad? How did she deal with officials from the former German Evangelical Church (DEK)? How did she react to the division of Germany? The edition of the minutes of the nine meetings of the EKD Council from 1950 offers a detailed commentary on the topics debated by the Council. It documents the attempt to determine the relationship between church and state as well as the position of the Evangelical Church within German society as a whole. In addition to denominational tensions, the political differences that made it difficult for the EKD to see itself as a united representative of German Protestantism are also evident here.
