Der Band fasst die Ergebnisse des 3. Arbeitsgesprachs der Deutschen Neulateinischen Gesellschaft zusammen, das im Februar 2007 in Bochum stattfand und das lateinische Drama der Fruhen Neuzeit zum Gegenstand hatte. Die neuere interdisziplinare Forschung nimmt neben den traditionellen Themen (fruhhumanistische Anfange, protestantisches Schuldrama, Jesuitentheater) und deren Verankerung vor allem im padagogischen und konfessionellen Diskurs der Zeit verstarkt auch poetische Sonderformen, intertextuelle Phanomene und metaliterarische Dokumente in den Blick. Beachtung finden etwa die sogenannten Schulergesprache, insofern sie mit den voll ausgearbeiteten Buhnenstucken die padagogische Funktion teilen. Dramatisierungen antiker Epenstoffe (z.B. Dido) sind sowohl aus gattungsspezifischer wie aus intertextueller Perspektive ein ergiebiger Forschungsgegenstand. AEhnliches gilt fur das vielfach zu beobachtende Nebeneinander von lateinischen und volkssprachlichen Dramentexten (z.B. Jedermann-Stoff). Die Relevanz des lateinischen Theaters noch bis in die zweite Halfte des 18. Jahrhunderts lasst sich anhand akademischer Disputationsthemen aufzeigen.
