With RESTLICHT - Eine temporare Gedenkskulptur (RESIDUAL LIGHT - A Temporary Memorial Sculpture), Werner Mally, a Munich sculptor, has made an innovative contribution to current questions about artistic forms of remembrance culture. In place of static holocaust memorial sites, he relies on a temporary installation, which offers postwar generations possibilities for information, identification and empathy. RESTLICHT is a sculpture and a potential event location at the same time.

The memorial sculpture is based on the notes recorded by Friedrich Krals in the summer of 1945, written immediately after his return from the concentration camps and published under the title Hungermarsch (i.e. hunger march, 2005).
