In the present volume 17 authors examine (in a diachronic, cultural-comparative and transnational perspective) the influence of Protestantism on Science, Education, University and School between the 16th and 20th century.The answers are ambivalent. In many cases Protestant piety has influenced Science and Education and its institution in a positive way. In other cases Protestant influence can be hardly recognised and has been partially even overvalued. German description: Eine der weit verbreiteten Annahmen besteht darin, dass der Protestantismus eine besondere Affinitat zur Bildung besitzt. In dem hier vorliegenden Sammelband fragen 17 Autoren in einem diachronen, konfessionsvergleichenden und transnationalen Ansatz, welchen Einfluss der Protestantismus zwischen dem 16. und 20. Jahrhundert auf Wissenschaft und Bildung sowie auf Universitat und Schule genommen hat: Welche relevanten Handlungsmuster und Diskurse hat er geformt und wie hat er auf Veranderungen in Wissenschaft und Bildung reflektiert und wie auf sie reagiert?Die Antworten fallen zwiespaltig aus. In vielen Fallen hat protestantische Frommigkeit Wissenschaft und Bildung sowie deren Institutionen positiv beeinflusst, in anderen hingegen ist protestantischer Einfluss nur schwer zu fassen und ist partiell sogar uberschatzt worden.
